Human Nature

There’s nothing new about people being scared of strangers. Nothing novel about people being greedy because they’re afraid of running out of resources. In truth, those fears have been the source of wars and division since the beginning of time. Like it or not, that’s a part of nature.

What’s new, is that we have many more humans on this planet. This makes more strangers to be scared of and fewer resources to fight over. Not to mention, these buzzing screens constantly barraging us with the latest reports of humans doing scary human stuff.

But do you know what else is human nature? Humans chase what feels good. And there is nothing that feels better than trusting. Trusting that despite all the unsavory ways people channel their fear, most intentions are good. Trusting that the Earth in her abundance, has enough resources to equally share.  It feels good to have hope. It feels good to face fears and bring them to the light.

We are wired to vanquish fear with curiosity and knowledge. The more we learn about other people, the less scary they become. The more we learn how to regeneratively harness resources, the less we fear scarcity. The more hope we fill our hearts up with, the less room there is for despair.

Despite all the hardships in this world, I feel such immense gratitude to be surrounded by people of all generations and circumstances that bring me hope. (if you’re reading this, I’m talking about you too) Every person in my life is living on purpose and choosing to use their lives to be of service. I’m not saying their lives are always easy or that they don’t have their own struggles, but they try their best and that’s the only thing we can ask for.

Yes, there are many challenges and puzzles to solve. And I have no idea when enough of us will wake up to the fact that we are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We’re the ones destined to make the shifts we need to create the peaceful planet we all deserve. But I do know that the more love and care I invest in the community around me, the better I feel. The more I

learn about others, the more compassion I feel for them. The more I learn how to take care of the planet and about the ways the planet takes care of me, the less fear I have about running out.

So I’d like to take this moment to celebrate

the teachers, artists, do-ers, changers, shakers, makers, movers, lovers, caregivers, innovators, growers, learners, experimenters,

all of YOU who motivate:

and encourage us to no longer stagnate.

Instead, you demonstrate

that we are the ones who get to choose our fate.

We can allow ourselves to gravitate

toward the people and places where our hearts naturally resonate

Where our tongues are free to communicate

every fear, every dream, every idea that makes our souls quake.

It is we who get to formulate

the future we wish to navigate.

We who get to pollinate

whatever we seek to cultivate.

It’s our time to activate

and co-create

a world that enables all to elevate.
