It seems impossible to feel such profound sadness for all those suffering. Yet feel this immense gratitude and glee for all the blessings in my life, especially after such a close call for my hometown with Hurricane Ian. But here I am. I find myself getting caught in the webs of why? Why them? Why not me? There’s no good answer. It feels so unfair because it is.
Humans like making sense out of the senseless. We search for patterns and answers even if they're incomprehensible. The closer we look, the more patterns we find. And with these patterns, more questions arise.
What does it all mean?
I think the truth is we bring the MEANING to life. On the grand scale of universal history, our existence is a blip. But this is our blip to do whatever the fuck we want with it. I don’t know about you, but I will not waste my blip while I’m in it. I know for a fact that anyone who is reading this brings meaning to so many lives. My life included. Whether you know it or not, someone's life is better because of the impact you've made.
For those of us grappling with a heart split in two, I think the best thing we can do if we have the means and the will, is to help light up the darkness and mend the brokenness with whatever resources we can spare. And when we’re in the dark and feeling broken, I pray we find those who are willing and able to return that favor.
Whatever you're going through, wherever you are, I just want to say: I’m so grateful our blips coincide in this space and time!
P.S. I'm so proud of my many loved ones who've been volunteering their time and donating goods and cash to those who are dealing with the fallout of Hurricane Ian. One cause I think is very worthy is helping our friend's friend and her mother get back on their feet after losing all their belongings and their home. Please help if you can. https://gofund.me/bbb0bf6f
In addition, FL Senate Candidate, Eunic Ortiz and Representative Michele Rayner have been working tirelessly to bring relief donations directly to those affected by the hurricane. These are the type of humans we want representing our state and looking out for our best interests. Follow them to find out how you can help and vote for them Nov. 8!
